“We never met a model we didn’t like…to make over” – Tom at Big Dog Models
Good Morning Viet Nam: Big Dog Models Meets Sea Gull
It’s more than a sexy makeover. It’s a collaboration. It’s a partnership. It’s about turning a dream into reality, and it all starts with Sea Gull Models in Vietnam.
We’ve all seen those factory-fresh RC models. Flawless, perfectly assembled, ready to fly. But they’re all the same. They lack that je ne sais quoi. That’s where Big Dog Models comes in. We take those Sea Gull gems and transform them into something extraordinary, something unique . And while we admire the scale color scheme, and impeccable covering job, the SNAFU scale subject is just not the luckiest tag for a P47 Thunderbolt, so let the strip tease begin.

But before we get to the makeover, let’s tip our hats to Sea Gull. Their craftsmanship is meticulous. Their dedication to detail is impressive, and their commitment to quality is unmatched.
They’re not just building models; they’re crafting works of art. And they do it with love. Here’s a video of the Sea Gull skilled staff in action. Because the world can always use another beautiful model airplane.

But what makes Sea Gull Models truly special is the touch their skilled workforce brings to each assembly. The commitment of the Sea Gull assembly team is unmatched. They cradle those airframes in their laps, giving them the same care and attention that any experienced model builder can respect.

It’s this dedication, this human element, that makes Sea Gull Models the perfect partner for Big Dog’s custom bench. We respect their workmanship. We cherish their work ethic.
And together, we’re creating something extraordinary.
Now, let’s talk about the P47 Thunderbolt. This is a classic, a real beauty. Sea Gull’s factory model provides a solid scale foundation, but Big Dog’s customizations take it to the next level.
We’re not just building a model; we’re creating art.
This P47 project, this partnership with Sea Gull Models, is a testament to the power of teamwork, talent, and dedication. It’s a reminder that the most beautiful things in life are often the result of collaboration.

And let’s not forget the beautiful people. Sea Gull’s skilled workforce is a mix of talent, dedication, and beauty. They’re a symbol of what Big Dog Models stands for, taking things to the next level, one sassy makeover at a time.
Two SG P47s are underway now, one of which will be converted to the bubble top “Tar Heel Hal” color scheme that we replicated for our two commissioned Top Flite Gold Edition Thunderbolts. Sea Gull in the RC crowd is rated “Top Flite Gold,” or better when it comes to quality design and construction, not to mention first-class flying characteristics on the field.
Big Dog’s Strip Tease for the Sea Gull Bf109?

But now that we’ve peeked under the cover, as it were, Big Dog won’t be doing the strip tease on our SG Desert BF109 . We acquired our Messerschmitt model and the SG P47 Jugs too, from Legend Hobby, the Texas distributor that ships fast and adds some cool Legend Hobby merch free to our orders.

After we beat her up at the flying field (inevitable with our stunt-crazy test pilots), she’ll get the same ‘retro’ finish as our first Royal Bf109E. No epoxy and fiberglass this time, just a paintover to keep flying weight down for optional electric power. Parts for both fuel and electric motor mounting are provided in all of our Sea Gull kits. That’s a great option to have for scale-minded modelers who hate ugly glow and gas exhaust intrusions on their replica warbirds.

The Royal “Emil” 109 with a Dynaflite P51 is ready to roll. Before the age of electricity with enough power for .60 glow-sized designs like these 20th-century models.
