This has led to a dramatic increase in the rate of human progress via interconnectivity. AI technologies, especially Generative ones like advanced machine learning seem to offer us an ability to speed our collective development even faster. Some scientists now predict a singularity sometime around 2042.

Yet some doubt the very existence, much less utility of any minute noosphere cluster, or its quantum successor The Singularity. Admittedly both are terms that defy exact measurement, clear repeatable benchmarks, or basis metrics. The challenges of any usefulness for the assessment of obsolescence or derivatives like AI would be similar. The fable about blind scientists analyzing an elephant, each by touch, is funny because it makes a good point. And examples of categorical mistakes, lousy test metrics, and “wrong” judgments crop up across time and topic in any discipline from philosophy to psychology.

So I concede the question about the reality, nature, and existence of any noosphere both now or in its de Chardin form as problematic. The term is quite elastic, hook or crook.

Still, the power of “as if” in many disciplines and futuristic speculations has shown a “move forward and see” reality instead of a total impediment. One estimate had Einstein on the path of relativity for something like seven years of thought when experimental studies by another physicist who worked ahead of the curve or behind Einstein’s desk (depending upon one’s angle of vision) proved his ideations correct. Weaving the rugs of reality checks will go on even as weavers enter webs and ice forms into flakes.

If we assume that the noosphere is real, then it is clear that AI is playing a major role in its development. AI is helping us to explore the noosphere and to access its vast potential. AI is also helping us to understand the nature of the noosphere and how it can be used to improve the human experience.

I believe that AI and other emerging technologies have the potential to transform, to accelerate fruitfully human cultural interactive capabilities, and help us overcome our challenges. However proof positive of its acceleration and even identification of the force or sphere itself in either its quantum manifestation and even its widely spread cloud connectivity versions recede just out of our grasp…for the current lifecycle of the current systems running and essential to AI tool development and deployment.

As AI continues to develop, I am excited to see how it will help us to explore as discover the noosphere and other new frontiers.
